Both Jermaine O'Neal and Yakhouba Diawara have exercised options on their contracts for next season. O'Neal will be making about $23 million, while Yahkouba will be making about $900K. Jermaine took over the starting job when he arrived from Toronto and Yakhouba went on and off as the starting small forward, battling it out with Jamario Moon.
Now as far as Moon's future goes, this may mean he is closer to leaving Miami. Moon told reporters a couple weeks ago that Heat officials were impressed with him. With Jermaine's big contact and Yahkouba resigning, Moon might not be in a Heat uniform next year. The Heat have been concerned with the limited amount of money they have. Obviously the Heat are making Dwyane Wade their first priority, which they should, and have to save as much money as possible. NBA bloggers have been throwing Moon's name out. I have heard the Boston Celtics a couple times. They have James Posey last year to back up Paul Pierce and he was clutch while Pierce was on the bench. The Celtics could certainly use Moon's defensive and occasional three-pointer. The Celtics wouldn't have to throw too much money at Moon. He made $427K his rookie season, and made $711K last year. Maybe $900k or $1 Million would be all to sign Moon for one year. It would hurt me deep down inside because I hate Boston, but I would continue to follow him, don't worry.
